Kubota L2501 Overview

Kubota introduced the L2501 in October 2014 as a lower-horsepower Standard L compact tractor. North American versions pair the 1.647 L D1703 three-cylinder diesel with an F manual 2WD, DT manual 4WD, or HST 4WD chassis.
Configuration matters on this model. The manual tractors are rated at 20.5 PTO hp and use an 8-forward/4-reverse gear transmission, while the three-range HST is rated at 19.0 PTO hp. Transmission capacity, length, ground clearance, weight, and PTO engine speed also change by version.
The specifications and service intervals below come from Kubota's detailed specification sheet and full operator and workshop manuals. The L2502 announced in February 2023 is a later model and its figures should not be substituted for the L2501.
Kubota L2501 Quick Answers
- Production yearsKubota introduced the L2501 in October 2014. The model generation covered here runs from 2014 through 2022; Kubota announced the later L2502 in February 2023.
- Engine and horsepowerThe L2501 uses Kubota's D1703-M-DI-E4 three-cylinder 1.647 L diesel, rated at 24.8 gross hp, 23.9 net hp, and 70.2 lb-ft maximum torque at a 2,200-rpm rated speed.
- Manual versus HST PTO powerKubota rates the F/DT manual tractors at 20.5 PTO hp and the HST at 19.0 PTO hp. The manual reaches 540 PTO rpm at 1,910 engine rpm; the HST uses 2,105 engine rpm.
- Transmission choicesF and DT tractors use an 8-forward/4-reverse gear transmission with a dry single-stage clutch. The 4WD HST has low, medium, and high hydrostatic ranges.
- Engine oil, coolant, and fuel capacitiesThe full operator manual lists 6.0 US qt of engine oil with filter, 6.3 US qt of coolant, and a 10.0 US gal fuel tank.
- Transmission and front-axle capacitiesTransmission capacity is 7.1 US gal for manual 2WD, 7.3 US gal for manual 4WD, and 6.2 US gal for HST 4WD. The 4WD front axle holds 4.8 US qt.
- Hydraulics and three-point hitchThe open-center system provides 5.15 US gpm to the implement circuit and 3.13 US gpm to power steering at 2,205 psi. The Category I hitch lifts 1,918 lb at the points or 1,389 lb at 24 inches behind.
- Weight by configurationKubota lists 2,425 lb for the F manual 2WD, 2,601 lb for the DT manual 4WD, and 2,623 lb for the HST 4WD, all with ROPS.
- Main service intervalsThe operator manual calls for engine oil and filter, hydraulic filters, and transmission fluid at 400 hours; 4WD front-axle oil and valve-clearance service are listed at 800 hours.
- Which identification numbers matter?Record the tractor, engine, and ROPS serial numbers plus the hour-meter reading before ordering parts or requesting service. The reviewed text does not support a serial-year decoding table.
Engine and Power
Kubota's D1703-M-DI-E4 is a naturally aspirated, three-cylinder 1.647 L diesel rated at 2,200 rpm. The detailed specification sheet and workshop manual identify indirect injection; the conflicting one-line operator-table wording is not used as the preferred fact.

PTO and Hitch
All versions use a 1-3/8-inch SAE six-spline rear shaft at 540 rpm. Manual tractors have a transmission-driven PTO with overrunning clutch; HST tractors use a live-continuous PTO with overrunning clutch.

Fluids, Battery, and Service Facts
The full operator manual provides configuration-specific oil capacities and a complete schedule. Kubota recommends Super UDT-2 for the transmission/hydraulic system, permits regular UDT, and allows Super UDT-2 or SAE 80-90 gear oil in the 4WD front axle.

Parts Checks Before Ordering
Do not order L2501 parts from the badge alone. Record the tractor, engine, and ROPS serial numbers and identify whether the tractor is F manual 2WD, DT manual 4WD, or HST 4WD.
Confirm the installed tires, PTO, hydraulic options, and attachments in the illustrated parts lookup or full manual. Filter, belt, loader, axle, clutch, and transmission parts should not be inferred from another Standard L model.
Accuracy Note
Tractor specifications can vary by year, region, factory configuration, installed equipment, and later repairs. Match serial range, engine, transmission, PTO setup, and model code before ordering parts or doing service work.
